Milk Tea Nostalgia

Three times I went to Binondo. Three times I had lunch at Wai Ying Fastfood. Three times I had the same drink.

Cold milk tea.

It reminds me so much of Sabah. I had discovered milk tea (teh susu) there. Milk tea reminds me of quiet breakfasts in SIU Motel. They served us either teh susu or coffee for breakfast. I, being a non-coffee drinker, had always chosen tea. I remember being very reluctant at first, but I quickly learned to appreciate it. Milk tea reminds me of the visits we had made to our informants. This was a staple, along with pisang goreng or fried bananas. For me, teh susu will always be sweet--as will be the memories.

It disappointed me that the Binondo milk tea was a little on the bitter side. Because my memories of milk tea are never bitter.

Memories and milk tea are best served sweet.
