Interesting...
I was reading up on possible topics for my student when I came across these rather witty quotations and adages:
HANLON'S RAZOR : Never assume malice when stupidity will suffice.
"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the universe." -ALBERT EINSTEIN
KOLAKOWSKI'S LAW / LAW OF INFINITE CORNUCOPIA: For any given doctrine that one wants to believe, there is never a shortage of arguments by which to support it.
"Genius may have its limitations, but stupidity is not thus handicapped." - ELBERT HUBBARD
"I divide my officers into four classes; the clever, the lazy, the industrious, and the stupid. Each officer possesses at least two of these qualities. Those who are clever and industrious are fitted for the highest staff appointments. Use can be made of those who are stupid and lazy. The man who is clever and lazy however is for the very highest command; he has the temperament and nerves to deal with all situations. But whoever is stupid and industrious is a menace and must be removed immediately!" - GENERAL KURT VON HAMMERSTEIN-EQUORD
STURGEON'S REVELATION: Ninety percent of everything is crud.
COROLLARY OF STURGEON'S LAW: Except crap. One hundred percent of crap is crap. -Sannon Wheeler
BENFORD'S LAW OF CONTROVERSY: Passion is inversely proportional to the amount of real information available. (note: OMO!!! YUNJAEEEEEE!!!!!)
HUTBER'S LAW: Improvement means deterioration.
DILBERT PRINCIPLE : The most ineffective workers are systematically moved to the place where they can do the least damage: management.
GODWIN'S LAW : As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.
PETER PRINCIPLE: In a hierarchy, every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence.
MEYER'S LAW : It is a simple task to make things complex, and a complex task to make them simple.
HERBLOCK'S LAW : If you like it, they will stop making it.
ORGEL'S SECOND RULE: Evolution is cleverer than you are.
PARKINSON'S LAW: Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.
RUSSEL'S LAW: It is impossible to distinguish a creationist from a parody of a creationist.
PITTENDREIGH'S LAW OF PLANETARY MOTION: "The perception of time passing more quickly has nothing to do with the fact of my own aging process. It's the fault of the Solar System! The Earth is simply moving around the sun faster every year."
